Getting in the groove...
Mar. 24th, 2013 09:20 pmTranslation decks were cleared today, if a bit hurriedly due to some factors out of anyone's control.
My in-house Raspberry Pi server has been literally "hanging around" near where the router is located. And while the hardware is lightweight enough so that hanging suspended by a network cable puts almost no additional stress on any of the hardware, it looks sort of... weird. So I dug around the junk in the garage and made good use of a miscellaneous plastic box (several sizes too big for the RasPi circuit board, but that's okay) and a wine cork (cut in half longitudinally, glued to the bottom of the box, and then used to secure the circuit board to the box), after suitable apertures were made for ventilation (I cannot imaging the board overheating, but still...) and for the network and power leads. The result looks better, at least. And it still works!
I hung five window blinds over the course of the day, too, replacing some old, horrid-looking thin blinds with sets having 2-inch slats.
The rec room has been cleared of almost all junk, and may soon revert to its original intended purpose. At least it no longer resembles the debris field that was created while emptying my old office.
In cultural news, Galina and I just finished watched The Raven, with John Cusak, on Netflix. The story is a bit far-fetched, but most such stories are—even those in which Edgar Allan Poe does not appear (whereas in this story, he is a central character).
Feht informed me that Kirkus has published a review of Keep Forever, by A. K. Sokolenko, which I translated. Naturally, the review focused on the narrative and not on its rendering into English (not that I would expect any such thing, since good translations are pretty much "imperceptible" to readers). At any rate, it was gratifying to read the reviewer's reaction to the book.
Cheers...
