First-world PTSD...

Via mallorys_camera, writing about an acquaintance who may be described as "a self-indulgent flake," who has applied for PTSD disability due to work stress:

I'm sure I could get no end of therapists that would cheerfully certify me as having PTSD. I mean, in the space of 18 months, I lost [...] everything – my home, my livelihood, my husband,most of my worldly possessions. Everything. But I wouldn't dream of doing something like that. I mean, there are real human beings who've scraped the bloody body parts of their closest friends off their legs in roadside mortar attacks. They have PTSD. I've just had… a rough time.

And you know what? When you have a rough time, you just soldier on. You repack the load so it balances better, you get back up and you start back down the road. That's the essential grace of being a human being.

It makes me [...] furious that someone with all the advantages doesn't understand this.
