By fits and starts...
Apr. 30th, 2013 10:37 pmI guess the last time I ate at the Mediterraneo, not far away in Nassau Bay, was 10 or more years ago with Paul K. The place lacks the spiffy, yet mind-numbing uniformity of the franchise eateries, which ends up being a plus, in my book. I find it's a good thing to be able to do a little shopping for buckwheat and figs while the crew in the kitchen is putting together one's gyro salad.
What's more, Galina liked the place as well (high praise, as she is orders of magnitude more critical than I am). I look forward to the next time we find ourselves in the neighborhood in the mood to "eat out."
* * * It turns out that BitTorrent Sync did not run the way it should have yesterday. The idea behind the software is to be able to "torrent" one's own files to another computer on the 'net, even if it's in your own local network. This means being able to make easy backups of one's work files, which was something that had been crawling inexorably up my list of priorities.
However, it turns out that something about my Windows 7 machine causes the software to do everything except actually send the data over the net. What's more, I managed to find a post on the BitTorrent forum that described precisely the problem I was having, which I plan to monitor to see what kind of solution turns up. In the meantime, I created a link between my Linux laptop and my Windows 8 machine, and the software works like a charm.
It's been a long day, which started with several emergency vehicles going full tilt down the road that goes past the house with sirens blaring. With that much excitement going on (and with so many refineries not so far away), I turned on the scanner, but there wasn't anything going on over the radio waves.
Time to hit the rack...
