Something went terribly wrong with my ownCloud installation, with the result that bloody well everything that had been put in my local cloud has been lost.

About 350 GB of stuff, and even assuming it's still around on some other media, it will take a long time to reassemble if it is.

It's on me, for not having a "deep enough" backup plan.

Grrr.

Okay, now I'm more confused than a chameleon in a bag of Skittles, but I'm definitely not complaining.

I dismounted the disk, shut down the Linux machine it was on, and then moved the disk to my Windows machine (where I have, with great foresight, already installed an extFS driver), and it turns out that all 350 GB of stuff is still there, sitting pretty.

Whew!

Be that as it may, I'm either still going to give the boot to ownCloud (despite its usefulness since it allows me to stream media), or I'm going to seriously rethink my backup strategy.

I feel like I've been shot at and missed.

It's a feeling I can endure, I think.
