An unusual amount of The Routine Stuff™ landed in the inbox this morning, making the kind of noise one associates with thermonuclear weapons testing. What was particularly unusual was the end client's insatiable thirst for much of the stuff to be returned as soon as possible, suggesting that—in a departure from habit—someone was in the end client's office on Friday.

So, I went at it, and the next thing I knew, it was 2 pm and I had put a sizeable dent in what had arrived, enough so that I could schedule the rest for this weekend, in addition to all the other happy stuff I've got on the plate.

I really need to figure out a way to clone myself, at least on a temporary basis.

We'd clean up.

Temporarily.

I was pretty happy with using BitTorrent Sync to effectively back up files from my Windows work machine to a Raspberry Pi with a USB drive hanging off of it, until I started looking at log files to figure out why transfers would effectively stop after a while.

It turns out that BitTorrent Sync doesn't much like file names containing non-ASCII characters. In my case, this consists of a rather large number of files containing Cyrillic letters.

Back to the drawing board, which in my case, consisted in resurrecting my Acer A340 Windows Home Server, but to be frank, I think this is only a temporary solution (i.e., the machine will stay on until everything gets backed up, whereupon it will then be shutdown for some period of time).

I suppose I ought to also file a bug report with the folks who do BitTorrent Sync. In theory, the software offers a pretty elegant solution to the problem of backing up files.
