btsync woes...
Mar. 14th, 2014 11:10 pmI was pretty happy with using BitTorrent Sync to effectively back up files from my Windows work machine to a Raspberry Pi with a USB drive hanging off of it, until I started looking at log files to figure out why transfers would effectively stop after a while.
It turns out that BitTorrent Sync doesn't much like file names containing non-ASCII characters. In my case, this consists of a rather large number of files containing Cyrillic letters.
Back to the drawing board, which in my case, consisted in resurrecting my Acer A340 Windows Home Server, but to be frank, I think this is only a temporary solution (i.e., the machine will stay on until everything gets backed up, whereupon it will then be shutdown for some period of time).
I suppose I ought to also file a bug report with the folks who do BitTorrent Sync. In theory, the software offers a pretty elegant solution to the problem of backing up files.
