An examination of the store-bought lemon grass I planted a while new ago reveals new growth in two of the four stalks. Doggedly tough, these plants!
The tomato plants in both containers have suddenly become festooned with many small green fruits. Hooray for tomatoes!
I made some ghee today, but only half of the quantity I usually make, and so I ended up "boiling" the butter past the point where all the water had been boiled off. The good news is that the ever-so-slightly-burned flavor imparted to the ghee by this overcooking is marvelous! I can't wait to use it.
Over the years, about the only use I've ever found for chick peas (garbanzo beans) is as something I easily confuse with hominy (at least visually :^). However, Galina and I ran across a recipe for mashed chick pea salad the other day that we both like very much (its texture reminds me of tuna salad). It basically consists of a can of chick peas (mashed), 1/2 a cup each of diced carrots and celery, about 1/4 cup of chopped scallions, 1/3 cup of hummus as the binder (instead of mayo), garlic, and spices. I'm going to have to make sure and make more tomorrow!
Cheers...
