Workers were in the house for much of the day, installing a radiant barrier in the attic. In the meantime, I sat in my office and translated almost 3,000 words of text that, maddeningly, would run smoothly for a while and then bog me down.

The bumpy parts left some knowledge in their wake, at least. To wit:

I learned that all fissile materials are fissionable (but not the other way around). Hopefully, this knowledge will not have a great impact on my life.

While fussing with glossary files, I learned that what Microsoft Word describes as "Unicode-encoded text" is what Notepad++ calls text encoded in "UCS-2 Little Endian" format (as opposed to "UCS-2 Big Endian" format). I love technobabble, don't you?

I also spent time scratching my head, wondering whether Великобритания is more appropriately rendered in English as Britain or Great Britain (and settled on the former).

Why is it, at times like this, a line of Rick Blaine's from Casablanca
It seems as long as I have those letters, I'll never be lonely.

Cheers...
