Update...

It's been pretty wet around our neck of the woods, lately. So wet, that yesterday morning, when I went to walk the dogs after their morning meal, I stepped onto what I thought was a wet patch that turned out to be a puddle—a fact of which I was made painfully aware when, for reasons still not entirely clear to me, I slipped and fell, breaking my fall with my left arm. I found myself on my left side in about four inches of water, completely wet (except, by some miracle, for my right trouser pocket, where I usually keep my wallet) and grasping both Shiloh's and Thumper's leads.

Curiously, after I made sure I hadn't done serious damage to myself and gotten to my knees, I noticed that Thumper—who had been wearing a harness—had again somehow slipped out of it (this was the first time for this particular harness design), and was, in every sense of the term, "off leash."

Thumper has a reputation for seizing opportunities to exercise his freedom. On the rare occasions he has gotten out of the back yard gate, he gleefully races down the driveway and into the street (failing, I suspect, to look for traffic first), whereupon he scorches a path down that same street with the gusto of a thirsty frat boy chugging beer at a kegger.

Yesterday, however, he remained in place as I got up, reached over and attached the lead to his collar. He looked a little scared, to me; like maybe he thought he had caused me to fall. I'm sure I'm imagining things.

A passing thunderstorm took out power at the house this morning, and when the lights stopped flickering and power was fully restored, it turned out my trusty old WRT-54G, which was not plugged into a UPS, had given up the ghost. Lacking a replacement, I ordered a router from Amazon and hope to be able to get back to "normal" soon. In the meantime, I bought a 3-GB "pass" from T-Mobile for the portable access point I bought in anticipation of, among other things, incidents like this, and am chugging along on "impulse power." (Then again, once the new router has been installed, maybe I should do a speed test and see how my usual AT&T service compares against T-Mobile.)

Work is slow, but I've received (and completed) an assignment for a good client I did a bunch of work for a couple of years ago, before the client lost the end client's business as the result of a tender.

In other news, I've been able to configure emacs to do Gmail, because I'd really like to have closer integration between my "planner" (emacs running org mode) and my mail. Besides this (which should have been easy, but wasn't), I've tweaked my agenda view, and I've learned even more about the Property API in org mode.

Looking forward to tomorrow!
