There were moments, back when I used to write code for a living, that I'd become obsessed with some nuance of what I was doing, whereupon I'd go nuts implementing it, abandoning food and sleep and family until I obtained the result I needed.

The approach made for some pretty spiffy code, not to mention a not insignificant level of knowledge about the programming languages I was using. (Indeed, one might argue that my programming books were the product of such insanity.) That level of concentration, and of learning, and of figuring out how to use the tools the language gives you to accomplish a goal is pretty compelling, even without all the caffeine, the nicotine, the lack of sleep, and so on.

I hadn't truly felt that same kind of attraction with elisp until today, when—having put a serious dent into assignments received this morning—I turned my attention to,,, it really doesn't matter what. What does matter is that although I had put a serious dent into what was on my plate, my karma has recently experienced a revival and I have quite a bit left on the plate, which means I really had no business spending time coding.

What makes the situation particularly tricky is that the work on my plate is from three clients, which places particular demands on the freelancer to get everything done expeditiously. Fortunately, none of my remaining assignments are ginormous, but still, they are not something that can be completed in zero time.

Intense coding is a young person's game, and I'm a bit tired. I'm not going to play catch-up now, but I need to make a resolute decision not to look at code until I actually have the time to get involved with it.

In other news, I took a photo of the luffas and added it to yesterday's post.

Cheers...
