Calgary!

Yesterday's idyll at the airport turned to dross right quick when it became known that a flight from some place like North Carolina was going to arrive three hours late in Houston. Said flight was carrying, among others, the flight crew that was to fly us to Phoenix, where most of the plane would be catching connections, mine being to Calgary, Alberta.

The LED sign at the gate continued to show a 6:15 pm departure for our flight for as long as it took for the crew to arrive and the passengers to start boarding immediately after, which turned out to be about 6:40 pm. The cockpit made good time, and we arrived in Phoenix only 15 minutes behind our originally scheduled arrival time.

I was still a little concerned about catching my connection, though, as navigating the Phoenix airport can require a lot of walking up and down concourses—one of which is for international flights—but it turned out my Calgary connection was leaving from the gate on the opposite side of the concourse from the gate at which the Houston flight arrived.

Arrival in Calgary was smooth. A fellow passenger talking to the immigration agent at the next booth seemed to be getting asked a lot of questions after telling the agent he was in Canada to visit his daughter-in-law. When asked, I told my agent I was in Calgary to visit my daughter, but no additional questions were forthcoming. My luggage made the connection, and after handing my immigration form to the customs agent near the exit to the terminal area, I was—in my own mind, at least—in Canada.

I woke up to a pleasant (~70°F) but rainy city. Kyle went off to work and then Natalie and I drove around the city for a while. It seems to be a nice place, but my "sample size" for drawing such a conclusion is fairly small.

In other news, my NEXTBOOK is acting funny (which is, I suppose, a diplomatic way of saying it's barely working). The keyboard stopped working when I connected the unit to an external monitor through the HDMI interface, and so far nothing (e.g., rebooting) has brought the keyboard back to life, though I was able to do some keyboard and mouse input with the aid of a USB dongle.

Fortunately, nothing came in that required me to sit and type for any length of time today, so I am probably off the hook in that regard until I get back to the States.

Tomorrow will be crunch mode as Natalie and I prepare to drive to Pagosa this weekend. I am looking forward to it.

Cheers...
