Today was a very good day. I lined up a bunch of the stuff that, over the weekend, I'd listed as needing to be done and got 'em done. Bills... paid. Invoices...sent. I had the car inspected and then renewed its registration online!

I even got some translation done and sent.

Recall that assignment that made my life difficult for the week after my return from the road trip (i.e., the week of Natalie's visit)? Well, without that assignment, my billings over the past four weeks would barely be in the four figures; with it, though I cannot boast of a stellar 30 days, they weren't too bad. (Somehow, my cycle for billing has shifted, from the end of the month to somewhere around the middle. I can explain why it's good, but I don't actually have a sharp picture of how it came about. I'm not going to quibble, however.)

I'm considering adding a third component to my planning strategy.

For the longest time, I've had this... vaguely notebook-like device that consists of 43 "pages." The area between any two contiguous pages forms what is essentially a folder (or a pocket that is enclosed along only one of four sides). There are a pair of oversized holes punched through all of the pages except the front page, presumably to help you get to items stored in the pocket closest to the front of the device.

The pages are numbered from "1" to "31" and then from "January" to "December."

The purpose of this device is to hold various papers (e.g., bills, letters, renewal notices) and other items that are linked to specific days of the current month, and to future months. You could, for example, make a note to remind yourself of your cousin's October birthday, and then put the note in the folder marked "October." If, in July, you get a notice to renew some service in December, you'd put the renewal notice in the "December" folder. There is a bunch of information out there on this so-called "43 folders" method (I seem to recall there's also a Web site by that name, but I digress...).

So between my BulletJournal, which should contain only as much information as is necessary to recall the existence of a task or event, my org mode files, which contain a lot of detail about some of those tasks or events, and this 43-slot storage device, which can organize odd-sized papers associated with some other tasks or events, I ought to have a pretty comprehensive planning system in place.

Now, I just have to use it. :)

Something went and trashed the sound card on my Linux laptop. I'm sure the problem is temporary, but I don't really feel like rebooting the system just yet. I'll probably do so when I go hit the rack. I have to be ready for another big day tomorrow.

Cheers...
