When we last saw our hero...
Sep. 18th, 2015 10:39 pmWork has been picking up, but not to the extent that I can kick up my heels and do a jig.
We've also been sort of playing catch-up with other things as we went down the home stretch of signing a new lease with the tenants for the rent house over in Webster.
In recent days, Galina's phone has been ringing off the hook and her inbox has been filling with requests from numerous folks (actually, their brokers) looking for a place to rent. Almost uniformly, the applicants have had some kind of really obvious defect, such as the fellow who was quite up front about his plans to turn the house into a sort of hotel for transients. Most other faults had to do with credit (actually, the lack thereof), income (the lack thereof), and dodgy supporting documentation.
But the lease was signed today, so that's something.
I had a follow-up with the ophthalmologist and it would appear that, despite my subjective assessment, the vision in my right eye is improving and the blood cloud is clearing up. I suspect an exponential relationship is to blame (i.e., getting rid of 50% of the blood does not improve the vision by 50%). There is nothing to do but wear an eye patch and bear it.
On Wednesday, I finished my evaluation of the SIM card that I had purchased from "Consumer Cellular," a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that makes use of the AT&T Wireless network, and made arrangements for my existing number, which currently operates on the Verizon network, to move to the new phone. I expect this move will save me significant amounts of money in the long run over Verizon, especially since I do not use all that many minutes or send that many texts.
In other news, Galina and Alla invited the gang they usually hang out with at La Madeleine on Wednesdays to the house for a sit-down dinner. I was invited to join the ladies, and despite some (internal) criticism I leveled at myself regarding some of the food—e.g., the lasagne was watery and too salty—a good time was had by all.
I have been hitting my self-imposed (and arbitrary) daily translation goals for the past few days, which is a good thing. This weekend, I'll be mostly sitting at the computer and clearing my plate in preparation for next week, which is going to be a pretty big week.
In fact, a huge week.
Cheers...
