Catchup...
Dec. 13th, 2015 09:44 pmThe way it was explained to me, the captain of the Norwegian Jade exercised his authority to bring the ship to the quay about 18 hours early to avoid having to navigate the Houston Ship Channel in the fog. Natalie called on Friday night to tell me that the ship had docked, but that passengers would not be able to leave the ship until Saturday morning (I suspect it may have had something to do with the fact it was Friday night and that ICE staff would probably not be available to process passengers until the morning).
In any event, somewhere during the conversation, my best-laid plans for surprising Natalie with the fact that Galina was not in New York but at home got severely scaled back (Natalie found out about Galina being here over the phone, so the surprise was not completely ruined, but I digress...).
In any event, I picked up Natalie and Kyle on Saturday morning and took them to the house. At some point, we all went out to visit World Market to look around, after which the kids went their way, and Galina and I went back to the house. Last night, however, the kids took us out to Cullen's, which is a very nice place, to celebrate my birthday.
Today was a bit more running around on the kids' part. I went with them to the grocery store to restock and to Chipotle for a bite, and later, I cooked dinner (crawfish tails with tomatoes over rice, asparagus, preceded by kir). After some conversation in the living room, everyone (including yours truly) is getting ready to hit the rack early, because Natalie and Kyle's flight is pretty early in the morning.
I scaled back my translation this weekend, but still managed to do about 10%–12% more than what it would have taken to just stay even, and while that is not exactly mind-blowing news, I'll take it and be happy with it. A new week starts tomorrow, the translation plate is still piled high, and I have almost no idea of what I can write about for the next installment of the most recent variant of LJ Idol (I suspect a large part of that has to do with my having gotten my head wrapped around trying to write a coherent story that spans multiple weeks, which offers a somewhat unique and additional set of challenges).
Cheers...
