I've commented before on the propensity of some bosses to come by and focus on the amount of work left to be done as opposed to the amount of work completed. The mental picture I use has me shoveling coal from an infinite, immense, and imaginary large pile to the other side of an imaginary railroad track.

Indeed, focusing on the among "moved" offers a chance to feel something has been accomplished, knowing you put in an honest day's work. Focusing on the infinite mountain is a fast track to frustration and leaves a bad taste in one's mouth. Some bosses focus on the former; others, on the latter. A third, smaller group consists of bosses who play Jeckyll-and-Hyde—either extolling accomplishment or noting the lack of progress, as the spirit moves them.

Sometimes, when you are your own boss, it's hard not to look at that big, intimidating pile, while at the same time losing sight of what you've done on a particular day.

As it turns out, if I had three solid months of days like today, I could take the rest of the year off. (I'd even settle for having those ninety days sprinkled throughout the year... try me!)

In fact, however, every waking minute of this coming weekend and upcoming week (very likely) will be spent translating, progress will be relatively slow, and the reward relatively weak. And so, I find myself putting that out of my mind and focusing on what I accomplished today, with the idea that I'm going to get up tomorrow and hit the ground running.

Meanwhile, I am coming slowly to a pretty radical conclusion about the stuff still on my plate, but not one formulated well enough to share quite yet.

Cheers...
