Mach 3, hair on fire...
Oct. 9th, 2017 08:32 pmOne of those days.
I got up early to address the translation assignments and managed to despeckle and send off one before leaving for a 10 am appointment at the Webster house. It turned out, however, that 10 am was a tentative time that had not been confirmed, and between what was proposed and a need to return home to address an issue with the translation file... well, I crossed my fingers and hoped the file issue could wait.
Once I got home, I found out the file issue had to do with Microsoft Word opening the file in Protected View, with the ominous warning that editing the file could damage my computer. I immediately scanned the ever-loving stuffing out of my computer, but the scan failed to show up any threats. I resaved the file, sent it off, and wrote the whole thing off to Just One Of Those Things™.
All of this was done against a background of Galina trying to get everything together to leave for Colorado, but by 3 pm, it was clear she was still not ready, and I convinced her that she may as well get a fresh start early in the morning rather than try to drive to somewhere just short of midnight tonight.
In the meantime, the second translation was finished, despeckled, and sent, but now these files were exhibiting the same behavior as the earlier file, my editor was pretty adamant about not ignoring the warnings (can't say I blame him, on the one hand; no other alternative, on the other, thanks to Microsoft). This time, resaving didn't help, and eventually I saved the files in RTF format, which did solve the problem as far as my editor was concerned, but raised potential new issues with regard to the end client.
The fun never ends, let me tell you.
I have to be at the Webster house tomorrow at 8 am to kick off a painting extravaganza, so I better get serious about winding down for the day.
Cheers...
