Training. Sort of...
Oct. 17th, 2017 11:20 pmThe highlight of the day was a trip to The Redneck Country Club over in Sugarland late this afternoon, for an event that combined an introduction to gunshot wound first aid with a summary of the "good Samaritan" law here in Texas.
It became obvious to me, early in the presentation, that the introduction was something of a live infomercial for a more in-depth course in providing first aid for gunshot-related trauma (things such as arterial bleeding, compromised airway, and/or a penetrating chest wound), but even at the introductory level, the information provided by the presenter, a former Navy corpsman, managed to update what had been taught to me and all other recruits in boot camp back during the Vietnam era. Assuming cost and locale accessibility are not prohibitive, I'm inclined to want to go do the training, with hands-on time with the instructor, simply to have that much more useful knowledge. I mean, I did take a CPR course, so this would only add to that inventory of potentially life-saving skills.
In other news, I found the RCC to be an interesting facility and I ordered and ate a tasty meal from its kitchen during the break. That said, I'm not quite sure I'd want to become a member because (a) I'm not really a concert-going kinda guy, and (b) the RCC is a 45-minute drive away under no-traffic conditions. Then again, never say never, right?
Cheers...
