A writer's group...
Oct. 19th, 2017 10:19 pmI'm not going to diss the folks that showed up at a meetup to critique work, as I probably committed my share of stupidity, but it was interesting to see how people reacted to criticism.
Myself, I tried to maintain an even keel, even when I didn't quite understand where the critic was coming from. The piece I had prepared was an introduction along the lines of the Sam Spade conversations I posted from time to time on LJ Idol, so I really didn't give much thought to developing the first person character, particularly in light of the fact that, by the end of the piece, it was clear I had dreamed the whole thing. The goal of the piece was to use Spade as a vehicle to introduce me to the other folks at the session.
That said, I think I largely succeeded.
Will I go again? I don't know. Probably one or two more times, just to give the group a fair shake. (I've done the same thing for a Wednesday Spanish-speaking meetup, and after my third session, I'm inclined to be pretty positive about it.)
Chemo tomorrow, so I should probably get some quality sleep time in, starting soonest.
Cheers...
