Halfway there...

Tonight's belated season opener for The X Files seems to suggest that the show's writers still have "the stuff."
I missed probably the first minute of the show, but it seemed at first to be a show in the Night Stalker vein of the series, but then it became clear - via shock tactics - that this was a continuation of last season's closing episode.
Doggett's got a new partner, Scully's taking care of her baby, and Mulder is, well, gone. There's a new sleaze-o A.D. out to get Doggett, Scully's kid may not be quite normal, and oh, by the way, there's a full-size, homicidal, nude water pixie on the loose. None of this makes sense, of course, and may never make sense, if Chris Carter can be relied upon.
Nobody seems to have lost their sense of humor, either. The Lone Gunmen make an appearance, at Doggett's request, and their first line on the screen is something like "We'll, it's not as if we're doing much nowadays," which is a wry comment - I think - regarding the cancellation of their show.
As an aside, if the show survives one more season and they can somehow make Scully follow Mulder into the sunset, it would appear that The X Files will have been able to completely replace the "starting" team with a new set of heroes. I doubt it will happen, though.
Then again, this opener ended with a heck of a cliff-hanger, so there's no telling what might happen with the show. That's too soon to tell; for now, I know where I want to be next Sunday... :^)
Cheers...
