Okay, so I put the "finishing touches" on what turn out to be 7,000 words of OCR, in preparation for translation.

I had been contemplating doing the subject articles the "old fashioned way" (referring to the source either on a piece of paper—yech!—or on a second screen), but that approach raises the possibility of an omission and makes it pretty hard to maintain consistency (not to mention maintaining a glossary).

In any event, the scare quotes around "finishing touches" are there because for this kind of OCR work, I've found it really doesn't make much sense to go crazy and try for a perfect source document, as any "funnies" will make themselves apparent during the translation process (and I can refer to the unOCRed original then.

Admittedly, this approach does open open me up to be the victim of an OCR-induced typo that sounds reasonable (for example, if the OCR were to output "the plan is not ready" where the original reads "the plan is now ready"), but then I trust my antennae will quiver and I'll check the text against the original.

So at least I got something work-related done today!

Cheers...
