Something's been bugging me...
Nov. 14th, 2015 06:06 pmYeah, I know, there are big, bad, hairy problems out there in the world.
And as usual, there are too many dragons, and not enough knights.
Still, while translating and listening to Dean Martin knock out Ain't That A Kick In The Head, I could not help but be somewhat confused by the following lyric:
A straightforward effort devoted to figuring out the logic behind this string of words leads me to conclude that the speaker is saying "If I could feel any better, I'd be sick."
If that's true, I must also conclude the speaker's state of well-being is "worse than sick." This subsumes a range of states, from "pretty sick," down through "very sick" and "critically sick," all the way to "dead."
At which point I scratch my head and go, "Huh?"
I get the feeling I'm over-analyzing this, and that the lyric is something along the lines of the commonly (mis)used "I could care less." But it's become an itch I can't scratch.
Hey! It is 6 pm (or thereabouts).
I am severely behind in my translation work, although not by so much that I won't make my goal for the day.
Cheers...

I couldn't feel any better or I'd be sick...Deano may be telling me he is feeling good—I get that—but his words make no farblegargling sense.
