Foraging for wood...

I started the day with the idea that, once Drew had picked up and sorted the mail from downtown, we'd head off into the National Forest and stock up on some firewood.
After a series of delays, Drew, Shannon, Huntur, Lee, Sasha, and I finally got under way around 3:45 pm, heading out for West Fork.
Once there, the main task was to find dead wood that was fresh enough to burn well and not so long dead as to have started to decompose into something that burns quickly and without giving off a lot of heat.
I had thought to fill the van with a cord of wood (4' x 4' x 7'), but we had started so late that by the time we'd filled about 2/3 of the cargo area, a distinct chill had entered the air, so we decided to call it a day.
The cooking for tomorrow's repast has already begun, and the traditional turkey is thawing well. We had a simple meal of spaghetti and sauce laced with ground turkey this evening.
I am beat. If I do anything more energetic than watch a movie tonight, I will be very surprised. I am, in fact, more likely to go right to bed.
The store is closed tomorrow... yay!
Cheers...
