The evening went very well last night. We made tons more food than anyone could eat, and although it would easily sustain us for several days, I've decided to use the experience I gained last month to fast for the rest of today and tomorrow, as a "penance" of sorts for my monumental "cheat day" yesterday.

What did I eat?

Mashed potatoes—actually, a mixture of potatoes and cauliflower that Galina makes. Hors d'oeuvres with lox. Vinigret—a traditional Russian vegetable salad that includes diced cooked potato and beets). Olivier—a traditional Russian vegetable salad that includes diced boiled potatoes, carrots, pickles, green peas, eggs, celery, and onions, all swimming in mayonnaise. Sardines in oil. Eggplant "caviar." Turkey. Gravy. Wine. Champagne. Chocolate. More chocolate. Even more chocolate.

You get the idea.

The good news is that while I ate a variety of items, I like to think that I held back in terms of quantity... except maybe for the chocolate.

In other news, I transplanted the Chromecast from upstairs so that the group—predominantly Galina and my Russian friends—could watch a New Year's show streamed over the Internet. For my part, although I didn't really understand much of what was being sung (I have a hard enough time understanding sung lyrics in English!), I really enjoyed the format, which consisted of performers doing their thing on stage, intercut with reaction shots of the audience enjoying the performances (even if some of these were clearly staged). For sure, the streamcast kept our guests glued to their seats for the duration of the show.

Galina felt exhausted by the time the last guest departed, so I stayed up to stack dishes and put away the leftovers (which was the time period responsible for "even more chocolate," see supra), and by the time I was done, it was past 2 am.

I decided that setting a 4:30 am wakeup—as I've done every day since December 2, to enable me to get a running start at the day—just didn't make sense. I'll return to that schedule tomorrow morning, as there will be time enough for sleeping later.

Lots of things to do today, among which is migrating my current BulletJournal to a new book, even though the old one is barely half used. Starting a new book will enhance the "starting off with a clean slate" feeling that I have always associated with the New Year.

Here's hoping that everyone had as good a New Year's eve!

Cheers...
