Things came together...

W. was what you might call the first "real" boss that I had. He hired me to work summers for the purchasing department of a sizeable engineering firm in Manhattan, and I worked three summers there as an "expediter." During the third summer, the job took on an additional wrinkle, as my duties took me on the road for much of the time.
I look back at those summers with fondness. W. got to know me through his daughter, who I met in college as a result of a common interest in the writings of Ayn Rand.
Anyway, I'm happy to report that W. is alive and well—or as well as one can be on one's 95th birthday, after having fallen and broken one's hip three years ago.
As for me, I am simply lucky that (a) I happened to notice that W.'s birthday was today and (b) I had a phone number at hand to call with birthday greetings.
In other news, I didn't quite get as much done as I had hoped, but at least I made progress.
Cheers...
