If there's something that sucks more than having a medical appointment on any given day, it's to have two of them on the same day, and if it's possible for something to suck even more, it's for one's significant other to also have a medical appointment on that day. And if we really want to push the "suck" envelope, that appointment will be to perform a biopsy.
Tomorrow will be such a day.
I can't wait.
Which brings me, strangely enough, to the movie Bridge of Spies, which is one of the better flicks I've seen in a while. I cheered on the James Donovan character (played by Tom Hanks), who pressed, despite everything, to get the right result instead of just an acceptable result, and even though I have little empathy for the character of Rudolf Abel, I immediately grokked his response to Donovan's observation that he (Abel) seemed not too terribly upset/nervous/worked up/etc. about having been charged with a crime (espionage) that carried the death penalty.
"Would it help?" asked Abel.
And that, as far as I can tell, illustrates an essential aspect of Stoicism: getting worked up about stuff you fundamentally have no control over does not help the situation.
It's late. Galina goes in tomorrow at the break of dawn, pretty much. My appointments start somewhat leter. In any event, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, whether it helps or not.
Cheers...
