The radiograms for the day are done... time to take a short break and muse on something I began thinking about on the drive down.

Just about my entire life has been lived in an era of "do your own thing" dancing where couples (and singles, and more-than-couples, etc.) sort of go out on the dance floor and move to the beat of the music. While some people who do this can do so quite expressively, many times the result looks jerky, uncoordinated, and out-of-touch with the music.

I am aware of the philosophy of "You've got to dance like nobody's watching, and love like it's never going to hurt..." There is more than a grain of truth to that thought. There is, in fact, great value in having the freedom to jump around any which way you want without having to be (or feeling one has to be) accountable to anyone for it.

But it's not the only way to dance.

Sometimes, there is value to be found in following "the rules" (choirs come to mind here, and team sports).

In looking at the amateurs who danced for an audience on Saturday night, I was struck by just how "in tune" the couples seemed to be as they moved in a coordinated fashion around the floor. Moreover, I found my eye attracted to one particular couple, whose moves while doing the cha cha cha seemed to broadcast more "sex" than the thinly disguised bumps and grinds I often see among non-contact dancers.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I was pretty impressed with the energy and look of "ballroom" dancing.

Back to work...

Cheers...
