Just as I was unpleasantly surprised the other day to recall that my American Express bill remains unpaid (which is a shame, because there is cash in the bank to cover it), I was pleasantly surprised to find that I am also flush enough with the cabbage for the scheduled payments that went out on Friday to be covered, with a little - very little - extra to spare.

Drew is not only feeling better, he went off with friends to play golf. My only revenge, sequestered here in my office finally attending to a 3,000-word translation due tomorrow morning, is that a few minutes ago, it started raining.

The assignment was fairly straightforward (a kind of extension of something I did about a month ago for the same client), but the requirement to provide a file with the same revision marks was not a no-brainer, even though I used Déjà Vu for most of the document. My custom macros to turn revision mode on and off and with and without deleted text shown didn't come in very handy this time around (though they have saved my bacon before).

Talking about rain, over the past few days it's rained enough, on and off, for the skyline to have become clear and for me to have lost interest in the Missionary Ridge fire. A few days ago, I ran across a 3-D plastic map of this region of Colorado that used to hang downstairs and was mildly surprised to "see" the terrain over by Missionary Ridge, Vallecito Reservoir, and the corner of Archuleta County in which the fire has established a small foothold. Having stared at a flat representation for the longest time, seeing ridges and valleys was a little of a shock.

The general notion of how apparently normal, healthy people have a tendency to engage in various degrees of self-destructive behavior raised its ugly head today, but there was a translation to do, so I didn't get much skull time in.

Gotta go... something is going on upstairs.

Cheers...
