The VAIO shut down without a fuss last night, but refused to start up this morning. After cycling power, it decided it needed to boot into Safe Mode.

I seem to recall similar behavior in Kazakhstan, though I might not have made an issue of it at the time.

Safe Mode has come and gone, and the machine has now rebooted.

Now I'm off to put a dent in the Thursady assignment.

Cheers...

I don't believe so. I've been very sensitive about the fan on the VAIO ever since that time it stopped working, thereby allowing the CPU to overheat, etc. From time to time, I crane my neck and cock an ear toward the fan to get a sense of how it's running.

OTOH, spontaneous reboots were charactertistic of the problem I had with the damaged CPU during The Fan Incident™.

Hmmm. Thanks for the tip.

Cheers...

The spontaneous reboots were what made me think of it.
