I didn't catch this in the e-mail before going to sleep this afternoon, but my new client backed out of the assignment (I had asked for a formal notification to proceed, to which they replied with a "Wait one..." while they conferred with the end client). The official reason given was the client's decision not to go forward with the project associated with the translation.

While I have no basis for thinking the agency is leading me on, previous experience tells me that it is not inconceivable for either the end client or the agency to have decided to handle the assignment some other way (typically, by hiring someone who works for less money than I charge). Ah, well.

Their loss.

Olga P. mentioned that Galina V. (the other member of the duo of ladies with whom I worked in Baikonur) is in town, working for what turns out to be our common client. Olga suggested we might all get together some evening socially, to which I provisionally agreed. Thinking about it more, I started to think about how a 3pm-to-10pm sleep period really was not suitable to support any kind of life outside of work - at least not any kind of social life - and how I might go about changing that.

Not many ideas come to mind, short of shifting my sleep period to the mornings, after the shift is done, and there are issues associated with that which sound entirely too... nerdy to get into right now.

(I suspect if one reads my posts for the past few weeks (months? years?), they likely harp way too much on my work, nie? Me be just a boring fella.)

Anyway... I must leave soon.

Cheers...
