I worked through most of yesterday afternoon editing a 6,000-word translation that might be called... no, that's not right. I was about to say "a glaring example of why one should not translate out of one's native language," but was stopped by the memory of a different recent document that is a much better candidate (and oh, do I wish I had snagged a copy, but I didn't... then again, what would I have done with it?)

Wow. Talk about having your train of thought getting derailed. Anyway...

I finally put the thing to sleep around 6 pm, when I went upstairs to fix some food for me and Ming (separately, in case you're wondering). For a lark, I flipped around the channels on the idiot box and saw that Thomas Crown Affair was starting in a few minutes.

Not the fairly entertaining remake of recent vintage, but the original McCoy, from 1968, featuring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.

Fortunately, dinner was almost ready, so I served the two of us and proceeded to absorb this classic. I loved it. It's not quite as polished as the remake, but its cinematography is remarkable in its own way. I thought the use of the windows was an effective way of emphasizing simultaneity and the chess game between Dunaway and McQueen was marvelous.

I fell asleep early, but woke up at midnight, wide awake and could not go back to sleep. So, I returned to my office, did a spell check of the document I'd finished editing, and then packaged it up for delivery.

I finally fell asleep around 3 am.

This morning's routine has been, well, routine. I returned around 10:30, napped, and then set about invoicing my two week assignment. I kid you not, it seems there are more and more hoops to jump through every time I do this. In the end, I produced an invoice with eleven attachments (various authorizations and time sheets). OTOH, the payday is not exactly painful to look at, if you get my drift.

I have two translation documents due tomorrow morning, but I'll worry about them after the store closes, (though I may take the shorter of the two along with me here shortly and do it in between customers).

I am still not caught up, but hey, I'm just one guy. I'll get there.

Cheers...
