On seeing myself on video...

Video cameras don't last long around here, but then again, their natural enemy (Drew) is far away in Colorado, so maybe it's time to break out the used, half-dead unit I bought on eBay and start filming again. While looking for some stuff that was packed before this latest move, I ran across a box of 8-mm video tapes, which got me to thinking about what's on them, and about what I could put on them. Then again, after struggling to connect all the video cables and seeing footage of myself taken on Corfu in 1996, I'm not sure that's such a good idea, unless I am behind the viewfinder.
One thing the film confirms is that I smoked, then. It was, in fact, the vacation during which I stopped smoking, the result of a touch of sunstroke. My hair was longer, and I was pleasantly tanned. But did I really speak through clenched teeth all the time? Do I now? Jeez. Not a pretty sight, so it's probably a plus that my on-screen time is minimal.
On the other hand, seeing the footage, especially of the beach where the kids and I went scuba diving, was calming and pleasant. It brought a smile to my face a few minutes ago. The way I remember it, our family's Greek vacation was, in many ways, the best vacation I ever took - despite the sunstroke. Heck, considering my smile, it's even paying dividends today, just over four years after the fact.
Cheers...
