Strange iPod battery behavior...

alexpgpIt seems that the more I cycle the iPod battery, the better it performs.
The first time I charged the battery, it seemed to hold a charge for just a few minutes. After the second full charge, the charge held long enough to transfer about 40 MB of data. After the third full charge, the unit was able to play the content for about 3 hours.
My diagnosis may have been premature. At any rate, according to the back of the unit, it runs on between 8 and 30 Vdc, so now I am completely confused.
