I keep waking up at 7:30 am indepenently of my alarm clock (which is my GSM cell phone), which I suppose is a good thing, except that it's not something I can rely upon when push comes to shove. Still, I took it easy until the bus for town left at 11 am.

I got off the bus when it stopped to discharge some passengers near the Palermo Pizzeria, and then walked down the street we know as "the Arbat," and across the large town square, which is bounded by the Cosmonaut Hotel and the headquarters of the Russian Space Forces on the east and west sides, respectively, the Arbat on the north, and a statue of V.I. Lenin on the south. Turning right, I soon encountered a long, park-like promenade with various monuments along the way (there isn't time right now to process the shots I took... maybe tomorrow).

I have to say, this is the most easy-going group of French team members I've ever worked with. I helped a trio get some service at a restaurant shortly before it was time to rendezvous with the bus for the trip home, and we had a very interesting conversation that covered the gamut from hazelnuts to what the name is for a cat with tricolor fur ("Isabelle").

Then, during the party thrown by Astrium tonight at the Proton Club, I was placed in a position where the French lead made an announcement in English, forcing me - as I had no choice - to make a public announcement in French, and then in Russian. It may have been my imagination, but it seemed to me that my French audience was sincerely rooting for me. (My seat neighbor on the bus into town made a point of telling my how good my French is... I suppose eventually, maybe, I might start to believe it without letting the thought go to my head.

Anyway, I've gotten off the phone a few minutes ago after speaking with Galina. She's in Pagosa right now, and in fact had just arrived. Everything is topsy-turvy, as one would expect, but I figure she'll turn everything around in good time.

Time for me to hit the sack. Work tomorrow, no matter how I slice it.

Cheers...
