Hey! United Parcel is pretty cool, but today, after entering about three hours and a quart of sweat worth of data into my QuickBooks program, the La Plata Electric Association's grid went la-la. Pandemonium broke loose as lights began to flicker, printers began to recycle, and alarms began to whine.

One of them was on the UPS I'm talking about (my uninterruptible power supply), which paid for itself today by keeping my machine alive amid the turmoil. I exited gracefully and shut the machine down, then switched my A-B box and was able to gracefully shut my Linux box down, too. Whew.

In other news, I went to talk to Zach about establishing a web site for the group and got the go-ahead to reserve a domain name. Then we got to shooting the breeze and come up with the idea of finding a way to fund a company trip to Russia, for the purpose of performing Shakespeare - in Russian.

My initial reaction was to think the idea is, um, out there, but I've begun to get comfortable with such ideas in recent years, as I seem to keep getting involved with "out there" ideas (buying a small business, for example). In fact, the more I think of it, the more do-able the idea sounds. It needs some more thought and planning, though.

Meanwhile, it's time to go examine the inside of my eyelids for a few hours.

Cheers...

I'm with ya on UPS's. Mine's saved my butt more than a few times. Plus I can plug my radio and little battery TV into them and get a few hours before the UPS batteries finally give out. I probably need new ones, but what the heck ;)

to Russia!

Shakespeare in Russian sounds fun. I took a class called "The Russian Romance with Shakespeare" two years ago from a scary Baba Yaga-esque professor. (i'm not kidding, the woman very well could live in a house with chicken legs. eek!) I read some beautiful poems by Blok about Ophelia. There seems to be a lot of interest in Hamlet. We also watched an old 60s B&W film version of Hamlet, that had some amazing cinematography.
