I got about 3000 words translated today, but my heart wasn't in it. Yesterday, I began to think that perhaps my hoarse throat had some kind of infection contributing to it, but it my voice keeps improving, and aside from some tiredness - which I treated with a nap earlier in the day - I'm almost over it.

Natalie came over for dinner, which was nice. She brought Lily with her, which made Galina happy (she keeps cooing things like "My Lily!" at the cat). Right now, Lily is sitting on one of the chairs to the dinner table, attentively looking up at the ceiling. Up there, in that space between the celiing and the roof, there is a racoon - possibly a family of them - making noise overhead. Galina thinks the thing to do to get rid of them is to call animal control, but I get a feeling that animal control, or any private contractor we call, will be more interested in killing the animals than in saving them. Me, I'd prefer not to kill them.

Galina has taken a real shine to Firfefly. She's been watching the episodes one after another (and Natalie and I have been helping out). To be frank, I've been enjoying them, too.

Cheers...

When I did some volunteer work for a wildlife rehab place around here the advice for dealing with raccoons/possums/skunks was to put a pan of ammonia and/or some mothballs in the attic/crawlspace/wherever; the smell should drive them out. Playing a radio to annoy them can also help. Trapping's not so effective (especially if there's a family to deal with) and even if you do catch a critter the laws about such things means that whoever deals with the critter will just take it to the nearest habitat (usually just around the corner) and release the animal there. Better to have the critters in the vicinity to maintain their territory but be encouraged to lair in someone else's attic. :)
