My container yesterday was about full of chanterelles and king boletes, so I was only able to take pictures of what appeared to be fairly numerous specimens of...?

Emerging from the ground

The underside, which presents a fairly impressive veil.

Gills, not delicate at all, at first glance.

I plan to go back, if the weather and my gas tank hold, and do a proper specimen collection. Any tentative guesses?

Cheers...

Do be careful. The British papers currently are full of a story about how the author of The Horse Whisperer poisoned himself and his family with mushrooms they picked on an outing.

Yeah, heard about that.

Which is part of why I don't mix stuff I'm sure of with anything else (and take a good hard look at stuff I'm sure of before throwing it in a cooking container).

There's also the issue of geography to consider.

Cheers...

Looks one HECK of a lot like Tricholoma magnivelare. Is there a cinnamon aroma? If not, it could be Tricholoma zelleri.

If it's T. magnivelare, it's probably my top favorite edible of all time, bar none, forever and ever amen!

Ask me about cooking tips if you get a positive ID.
