I'm going to have to figure out a way to take weekend days during the week and as they come, because this past weekend seemed to be Yet Another Weekend Spent Doing Work™.

I finished the long piece and sent it off, and am all but finished doing a 19-slide PowerPoint file, which is due tomorrow morning.

I am actually looking forward to settling down in a few minutes and watching Tom Selleck in the latest Jesse Stone installment on CBS. In my opinion, Selleck does a fine job of bringing Robert B. Parker's character to life.

Speaking of character, I've completely gone nuts and managed to write a first draft of the next competition essay. The arc seems okay, but right now, it's just a first draft - or that's what I tell myself - so there isn't much substance hiding in the corners.

Time to shut down for the night.

Cheers...

I have just discovered Robert Parker. I figured out a while back that the best way to find authors was to look for those who had many books on the library shelves. A/ They must be good, since publishers keep putting them out there, and b/ that should mean that there will plenty for me to read before I must search out a new author. Then I find Robert Parker. Wow, what a prolific guy! (Seriously, I found this guy about 3 weeks ago. I'm not normally a tv watcher, so now I have that to look forward to as well.)

Well, if you only discovered Parker about three weeks ago, you have a bit of catch-up in front of you. (I don't know if you remember an old TV series starring the late Robert Urich called Spenser for Hire, but the series was based on Parker's books!)

I personally think his Spenser is best enjoyed more or less chronologically, but that's going to be difficult, as I suspect a lot of libraries would have gotten rid of the early books, and that's a shame, because IMO there was a stretch there where Parker was coasting, and his publisher let him.

My three favorites among his early work are Searching for Rachel Wallace, The Judas Goat, and Promised Land (where Parker first introduces Hawk).

Good hunting!

Cheers...

Aaahh...I see that I will have quite a project, and an enjoyable one, at that. I have also come to realise that reading these chronologically is a good idea. I recently found another author I enjoyed (Evanovich). Somehow I misinterpreted her titles in my quick shuffle at the library shelf and ended up grabbing one of her most recent rather than one of her first, as I had intended. -bit frustrating. I will go with a careful list next time I am refreshing my supply of Parker books.

And I will see if there's any hope for catching up on Spenser for Hire. However, you know how it goes. So frequently the movie/show is a let down after the book.

Well, the good news is that a series can't possibly keep up with individual books (or, at least, not for long :^), so what is left is a general impression of how the television character jives with the one in print.

For some reason, for the longest time, I avoided watching Spenser for Hire for the same perceived reason: I figured the show'd be a cheap knockoff of the original. And while there are some weak epidsodes, overall, once I started to watch the show (home sick from work), I felt that Robert Urich and Avery Brooks - and the writers, natch - did enough justice to the concept to become a fan.

Cheers...
