I got up at 6 am to do two short pieces and get them into my Denver client's inbox by the start of business, so I didn't get too much sleep last night.

The client came back with a note saying the third, longer item is something that was very similar - if not identical - to something that had been bouncing back and forth for several weeks, so that a translation probably already existed, and to stand by.

In the meantime, Galina made preparations to go to Durango, to the Home Depot there. When the client called to cancel the document, I grabbed my jacket and went out the door with Galina, and went with her on what proved to be a day off, with a lot of stops at our usual haunts.

My only "problem" had to do with thinking today was Friday, which lends a kind of perverse balance to my not understanding on Wednesday that Thursday was "tomorrow" instead of "after tomorrow." You just had to be there.

Anyway, I slept for most of the road back, which didn't really put enough of a dent in my sleep deficit from last night. I am feeling pretty tired (and Galina has already retired).

Our friend Mike is on his way down from Parker to do some work in the area, and we've extended our hospitality and offered to let him stay in one of the spare bedrooms while he's here. It will be good to have some new conversation around the dinner table over the next few nights. He's a little overdue, so I hope everything is okay (Galina said there were enormous numbers of deer near the highway as she was driving home this afternoon).

In preparation for Mike's arrival, we cleared away the sheets that we had been using to cover the big furniture items in the dining room and living room, so the place doesn't look like a haunted house from an old Laurel and Hardy short film. In fact, with all of the new lights on, the joint looks downright inviting!

While noodling around Durango, I picked up a used copy of Appointment in Samarra, by John O'Hara. Heady stuff from long ago. I think I'll go read some more of it.

Cheers...
