I took a close look at the "cheat sheet" memory aid that I created for Russian noun declensions, and I shudder. Although I was able to identify the use of, to me, one "strange" noun in a set of examples I found in a book (деревня, where функция would have worked much better), I proceeded to incorporate some "funnies" of my own, so basically, I need to rethink how I'm going to do this.

Yesterday's episode of The Mentalist, which is undoubtedly a repeat telecast of what has become a show that I will go out of my way to watch (but missed the first time it went by in the ether), made mention of mnemonics and memory palaces, and that's sort of motivated me to re-examine my failed - in the sense of me being lazy - attempts at utilizing both.

Galina and I went downtown today, which afforded me the opportunity of walking from the center of downtown - to wit, the intersection with the traffic light that was here when we moved here (when it was the one and only such light) - up to the Ace Hardware store that's toward the bottom end of what's locally called Putt Hill.

I finished the job from yesterday and got another one just like it, which I put off while I put out some local fires and a short translation for a Houston client.

So, I think it's about time to wind down and hit the hay. I'm sick of breathing whatever it is they put in paint these days, anyway.

Cheers...

Can I help you with that declensions problem?

Не знаю. Я стараюсь сочинить шпаргалку для себя, но она все усложняется и увеличивается. Я бы предпочел сформулировать короткую такую вещь которая годиться для 90% случаев, чем огромную, неуклюжую массу информации которая всегда права.

Cheers...

There is another way worth to try. You can make a list of rules and learn it by heart. There is an Indian method of memorizing. You start with line #1 and repeat it as many times as you can during the day. On a second day you make two activities. Firstly, you learn line #2 (rule #2 if you learn rules) the same way you learned line #1 yesterday. Secondly, you repeat #1+#2. When third day comes, you make two activities again. Firstly, you learn line #3, secondly you repeat lines 1+2+3. This way you go on until the end of lines or until infinity :) Some days you can skip learning of a new line. But never should you skip repetion of old lines. In case circumstances have forced you to skip repetition, you must resume the process as soon as you can. These are the rules. Rather short and simple, you see. And in your case, there is one more very good thing about it. It's not necessary to make the whole list at once. You can add rules one by one, starting from the most important and adding daily the most important of the rest.
