Today, I decided to take a line that popped into my head a couple of years ago while working a launch campaign in Kazakhstan and see if I couldn't massage/morph/amplify it into some kind of verse. The line is based on the first line of Me And Bobby McGree ("Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train").

The purpose of todays exercise was to establish some kind of baseline for a modicum of effort, where the result doesn't have to hang together as a whole. I expect to apply increasingly more polish as I go.
The Interpreter's Lament

It's blazing hot in Baikonur,
I'm scraping asphalt from my shoe
The plane's been here since 6 am,
The crew would like to bid adieu.

At last, from out behind the bend,
The big container heaves in sight;
The slings are slung, the load is swung,
The plane is buttoned up for flight.

My task is done, it's time to run
Back home again to my domain,
There's lots to do (but 'twixt us two),
Tonight I'll drink fine French champagne!
Cheers...
