Evening coffee...
Dec. 13th, 2009 06:42 pmI've been feeling... I don't know, a little self-conscious? about the nice things people have been saying about my chosen course of action as described in my LJ Idol essay that's currently the subject of this week's vote.
Providence knows I'm no saint, and I was so blinded by the challenge of writing an essay in which the main character - who happens to be me - is placed between a rock and a hard place, that I plumb forgot that most folks would overlook the art (the writing) and focus on the act.
This is probably something I should keep in mind for the future, although the reactions to this essay might also be a testament to success in the telling of a tale.
* * * I've been playing with the VMWare Player, and it appears to be a pretty slick piece of software. I've dug out some old OS install disks and now have virtual machines for Ubuntu and Windows 2K sitting alongside Windows 7. If I can install my invoicing program on the Win2K virtual machine, that'd be a mercy.
FWIW, once I finish the current crop of translations, I've decided to wipe the Linux partition from my "work" laptop (webster) and get rid of the GRUB boot routine, as I hardly ever use them, and 5+ gigs of hard drive real estate is nothing to sneeze at on my old VAIO.
In other tech news, reinstalling Vista on the machine I got from Drew is going to have to wait until I get a suitable video cable. When that'll happen is anyone's guess, as the wind's been howling and visibility has been down to 100 yards for much of the day (though right now, I can see lights for some distance).
* * * All four status reports are done and sent, which leaves me the toxicity report (1600 source words), which is due to the client tomorrow at 9 am. (Which implies, that I better get down to it soonest!)
Cheers...
