As I've doubtless noted before, one of the down sides of the translation racket is being called upon to routinely do work on weekends and holidays. This make a strange kind of sense, when you consider this kind of arrangement works very well for clients. (Imagine it's Friday afternoon and the client has just received a document from a foreign colleague. What better than to send it to the translator, with a deadline of Monday morning? That way, the client's work flow experiences minimum disruption.)

My first experience working in-house as a "visiting" freelancer was during a Memorial Day weekend, and after I joined the staff of that company, it was a routine practice to engage freelancers to come in and work on holiday weekends to allow the staff some time off.

So, despite the fact that I have, really, nowhere to go (and no vehicle in which to go nowhere), I plan to take this as a day off.

BTW, I woke at 2 am recalling that there were still some open questions in the document I had sent off last night, so I pulled on the slippers, went downstairs and took care of them. While I was up, I also took care of the figure keys and sent off the whole thing!

The plate is empty. The to-do list for invoicing threatens to topple. I may do it today, I might not.

Y'all have yourselves a great Washington's Birthday!

Cheers...
