Finally, after many years, it was high time to definitively nail down the difference between the French verbs pleurer (to cry) and pleuvoir (to rain), and it occurred to me:

You can see (voir) the rain. You cannot see your own tears.

(At least, not without a mirror. :^)

Also, to better understand the difference between the verbs pĂ©cher (to sin) and pĂȘcher (to fish), which consists in the difference between an aigue accent (which goes up and stops), and a circumflex (which goes up and down):

Sins go up to heaven, but when a fish jumps from the water, it goes up and then down.

More to say about mnemonics later, maybe.
