Mike and I spent a good chunk of the day headed up toward Parker, and as we went up Highway 160 toward Wolf Creek, I saw large areas where the ubiquitous pines appeared to be turning brown and withering away, likely as a result of what LJ friend vuzh was referring to when he left a comment not long ago about how beetles have been playing merry hell with high-altitude pine forests here in Colorado.
