According to the Center for Orbital and Reentry Debris Studies page, the UARS satellite is expected to plunge back to the surface of the Earth at 03:16 UTC tomorrow (about 9:15 pm tonight local Mountain time).

According to the latest satellite data, UARS will be visible from Pagosa at shortly before 9 pm tonight, appearing 10 degrees above the horizon at 20:55:44 almost due west (270°) of my location, rising to 17 degrees above the horizon a minute and 20 seconds later at a bearing of 316°, and then sinking below 10° again a minute and 20 seconds after that almost due north of me.

The CORDS site states a plus-or-minus of five hours for the re-entry time, so UARS may already have fallen out of the sky by the time it's supposed to go by, and 17° isn't very high when you consider the mountains between here and the horizon, but we shall attempt to see what we can.

Cheers...

I shall be in Zion Park (actually Hurricane, Utah) by this evening. I will look! We are planning to hike/scramble/swim the Zion Narrows on Sunday.

From Hurricane, Utah, the UARS ought to appear at 20:54 local time at a bearing of 231° (southwest), rise in the sky to a maximum elevation above the horizon of 54° a little over a minute later, and then take almost two minutes to sink into the northeast.

Good luck.

Oh darn from me, too. I just logged on. It is 8:50 p.m. But that is California time. So I guess I'm an hour late and a dollar short, to coin a phrase.
