By the time I got around to thinking about providing support for the tomato plants I planted in the containers in the back yard, the plants had gotten pretty big, and it took some doing to install the vaguely conical wire frame cages without damaging the plants too badly, but tomatoes are pretty hardy plants that can take the loss of a branch or two.

I don't know quite why, but I stuck this one particularly large branch in some soil, on the heels of Galina having asked me to stick some cuttings from her flowers into soil. At the time, I seemed to recall that one could do this sort of thing with tomatoes, and figured I had nothing to lose if the experiment did not turn our.

Well, today I happened across that small pot (which had somehow found its way into a corner... I know I didn't put it there, but I digress...). And guess what?

Apparently, there was enough "inertia" in that stem to keep things going until some roots could develop, because the leaves on that stem have livened right up. Tomorrow, Galina and I plan to acquire some additional containers, at which time I plan to do a proper job of transplantation.

In the meanwhile, it was pretty nippy when we got up this morning (around 50°F) and the okra plants looked half dead all day long. We'll see how they fare tomorrow.

Cheers...
