After using Windows for over a quarter of a century on a variety of machines, Windows 8 has driven me to seriously consider acquiring a Macintosh computer on which to do my work.

It's that bad.

Cordially...

Which is why I'm still on Win7. If I had my druthers, I'd still be on Vista, which at least for me, isn't as buggy as 7 and is much less buggy than 8. And every version screws the user interface further...

These days you just can't buy a new laptop without it. Had to format the disk and install Ubuntu instead.

I was seriously considering doing that, except the laptop I bought was built to only accept digitally signed installation media (read: Windows 8), and although I did consider trying to install a signed Ubuntu image, I ended up not doing so.

How was your experience? Do you run Windows in a VM?

These days there are open source equivalents for nearly any software you might need. I have Vine installed, but never had to use it yet.

100% agreed.

We bought a new laptop last winter that had Windows 8. It's the first computer either of us has ever returned.

Initially I kind of liked Windows 8.......but then I started trying to use it for work, rather than surfing the net. At that point I reformatted the HD and installed windows 7.

Windows 8 is designed for casual use on a tablet. As a desktop system it totally sucks.

Agree on that last. In my opinion, people who are comfortable with 8 just aren't using it hard enough.

Hmm, I actually like it. I must be a freak :) Although installing 'start is back' was the first and best thing I've done to it.
