Tour companies around here need to revise their announced tour durations. The city tour earlier in the week overstepped the advertised 3-hour time by almost half, while today's tour that took us from Guanajuato to Dolores Hidalgo and a few other places before we hit San Miguel de Allende got us back home around 9 pm, making for an 11-plus hour day.

As during the city tour, Galina and I were the only non-Spanish speakers in the group. It was difficult for me to gain any footing in the comprehension department (the guide spoke fast, and with something of a lisp due to some missing teeth), so I'm sure I conveyed a heap of misinformation to Galina along the way. On the flip side, I hope we made a good impression, at least of not resembling whatever run-of-the-mill norteamericanos are like. I know I took a lot of ribbing from the guide, which I didn't let bother me.

Right now, I feel like the kid in the classic Gary Larson cartoon who tells his teacher his "brain is full." I must've jotted down several dozen questions that I'm going to have to track down after I get back.

The bottom line is this: we had a good time.

Time to get a solid night's rest.

Which country are you in? I'd love to go to some country and speak Spanish with real speakers again. Costa Rica and Puerto Rico are on my Spanish "lista de cubo". AW

We were in Mexico, in Guanajuato city, for a week. My Spanish took a major boost (hey, from 2% proficiency to 4% proficiency is a 100% improvement, no?), and we got to see the city and some of the surrounding area between that city and San Miguel de Allende.
