If Solaris is your cup of tea...
Oct. 18th, 2000 08:13 pmLinux is nice, but it's not exactly Unix.
Sun Microsystems is offering a Solaris 8 free binary license program, which costs nothing to join (though a copy of the media will cost you $75 plus shipping, at least until Sun makes the software available in downloadable format).
The terms of the license seem reasonable: you can use the software on an unlimited number of computers that each work on 8 or fewer CPUs. (I'd love to own a machine with twin CPUs!)
With most of the ISS program running on Unix, I'm thinking this might be a good investment for honing my professional skills. Getting a few people together will cut the media costs, too.
Cheers...
