What a day!
Oct. 19th, 2000 09:34 pmToday was one of those frenetic days that had me putting out fires left and right. By the time the day ended, I didn't know whether to scratch my watch or wind my butt.
The day started poorly. What is usually a 15 minute trip from home to work dragged out for nearly 40 minutes, for reasons that only became apparent by listening to the radio in the (unmoving) car. It turns out that "signal trouble" had taken out two vital intersections between home and work, which left me - along with a few thousand other people - trying to negotiate those intersections at the proverbial snail's pace.
Upon coming to work, I find...well, an unflattering note from the client. Suffice it to say that I'll have to spend some time talking with some of the folks on my staff on that account. Later, I find out that we fell a bit short elsewhere, in (not) getting people to their assigned areas on time, causing all hell to break loose on the client side. Then I find out that I have to write a letter to a freelancer and ask why the quality of the latest submittal from her was so bad. Finally, I get a call about some documents we did...but before attending to that, I have to face the prospect of staffing some fairly ambitious assignments next week.
I can't seem to wind down. It's about 9:30 pm and I really need to put this day behind me, shut down this computer, go read something, sleep, and then get up with some gravel in my gut and some grit in my eye, and go out and Do It Again, but better.
Cheers...
